Cancellation Flanders Tour !

We are very sorry to inform you that the Flanders Tour for 2010 is cancelled. Main reason for this is the lack of registrations. We only have 4 registered entrees at this time of writing, which is way too little to have the tour started. Besides this, the organisation recently lost 3 members because of changes in their jobs, which doesn't allow them to participate.

Finding places to spend the night has also been a nightmare this year. So far, we still don't have any written confirmation from any soccer field, boy scouts club etc. which is new to us, since finding camping places has never been a problem in the past.

It was not an easy decission to be made, but considering everything we believe it is the right one. We could have waited another couple of weeks with this announcement, but since we do not expect much more entries it is only fair to inform those who are already registered as soon as possible, so they can adjust their holiday plans.

The people who already registered, should have received a personal e-mail about this years cancellation. Those who already transferred money for the tour, will get the money back on their account as soon as possible.

Edition 2010

The Flanders Tour 2010 will take place from Monday 19 July until Friday 23 July. This year, we will be biking in the Northern part of Vlaanderen, close to the border with the Netherlands, which we will cross one some occasions. This part of the Flanders is almost completely flat, so the only uphill we'll encounter will be bridges.

Departure and arrival for this year will take place in Ravels, up north close to Turnhout.

Can I already sign up for the tour ?

Yes, you can. Simply send an e-mail to flanderstour@gmail.com. Be aware that your registration is only valid once you transferred your participation fee !

Price is still the same : 175€/person for the whole week.

What is included in the participation fee ?

Included are : 3 meals a day (1 hot meal, 1 breakfast buffet and the opportunity to prepare your own lunch), the spending of 4 nights and all visits during the tour.

Not included : everything you drink or eat while visiting local pubs or at night in the canteen.

What about luggage ?

The only thing that will be transported for you, will be your tent. Everything else needs to be transported by you and your bike, so pack up wisely !

Is it possible to join for only a couple of days ?

People who join us for a full week, will have first priority. Only when the maximum of participants is not reached, it will be possible to join us for just a couple of days.

Is it possible to spend an extra night before and/or after the tour ?

For those who want, there's a camping site nearby (only 3 km from the starting point), called DE BAALSE HEI. There you will have the possibility to put up your tent or rent a hiker's cabin. Remember : you have to take care and pay for these extra nights yourself, these are not included in the participation fee of the tour !

How big is the group ?

To keep things running smoothly and safe the maximum number of participants is limited to 20 riders.

In case the number of minimum participants is not reached, the organisation has the right to cancel the Flanderstour. Should this be the case, all registration fees will be returned completely.

This year's edition is over. We were not only very lucky regarding the weather, but also when it comes to failures. We did not even have one flat tire ! The only real problem we've encountered was with some of the poles at the end and the beginning of bicycle paths. Some of them were not placed wide enough to let a trike pass without trouble, as you can see on the picture below.

Although the search for camping locations were more difficult than last year, all locations have been found and are now reserved. One worry less !

These last days we have biked the last of the routes, checking them in the mean time. When planning the routes, we tried to keep them as bicycle-friendly as possible, meaning that for this years edition we have to bike less on busy National roads.

Edition 2009

This year the Flanderstour will take place in the Western region. The tour will start and end in Geluveld. The 2 first nights will be spend in Zarren, the last 2 nights in Lichtervelde.
The first cultural stop this year will be Flanders Fields in Ypres.
An other cultural stop will be in Bruges, where we will visit the Friet museum.

We organised our first (recumbent)cyclingtour in 2006, under the name of Ecotour. But since the Ecoutour is annually organised in an other country, we chose to change the name in 2007 into Flanders Tour. We picked this name because our tours take place in the Flanders. Another reason for picking this English name is that we're trying to make every tour an international one. In the last 3 editions we had 4 different nationalities participating. Flanders Tour is more than just a bicycle trip. Everyday, we make a cultural or a sportive stop. In last editions, we visisted the Duvel's brewery, the Diamond museum, the bare-feet-trail, the Skull museum, etc. Every time we try to offer a varied program to fullfill everyones needs.

Practical

We spend the nights in tents.
Your tent will be transported for you, all the rest needs to be transported by yourself with your bike.
In the morning, a breakfast buffet is offered. It is from this bufet that you'll compose your own lunch.
In the late afternoon/early evening, a dinner is prepared for you by the organisation.
Participation is € 175,00 for adults, € 85,00 for children between 6 and 12 years of age and is free for children under the age of 6.

Can I already register ?
No, not right now. The date that registration is open, will be announced on the website.

I cannot participate for a whole week, can I ride along for just a couple of days ?
No, people who take the whole tour, have priority. If however at the end of the registration period places still are available, the organisation might consider this possibility.

Do I need to transport my own luggage ?
Yes, you do. Only the tent you sleep in will be transported for you, all the rest must be taken with you by bike.
